How many times, during simple conversation i was thinking: what to talk about? How many times i felt uncomfortable with silence? With how many people small talk is like agony because I can't find a subject to talk about?
Yes, silence in our culture is something awkward, something that shouldn't take place while everyday conversations. And here I agree. With ordinary people, neighbours and so on we talk about sth. There's always sth to chat about: weather, health, etc. We don't spend much time with such people, just 5-minut talk. When we need sth or just want to break the silence.
Because silence is for these few special people. These few you meet everyday, these few you spent most of your time. Silence is for them. For them, whom you care about, who understands you better than you understand yourself. Who knows what's up even just by looking into your eyes. With such people your silence is precious. With them you can spend long hours just sitting. Or doing totally meaningless things. Like watching your favourite soap opera for nth time or drinking coffee. I call it: sharing the moment. And i'm really happy i've got such people around me that i can "share the moment" with.
I think once you are able to sit in silence with someone and not feeling stressed or uncomfortable than you can tell this person is real friend.... Unless this person feels awkward :D than it's not special... For me silence is much more meaningful than words. Becouse by words you can say anything, you can lie, you can hurt, you can hide your emotions behind the words...but when you're silent than all your emotions are shown in this silence. All you have to hide is, in this one moment out. All that is inside you for this one moment is on your face, in your look, in your smile. So listen to the silence, look closer and see more. And don't break the silence with people you care about because they may tell you more with their silence than they'll ever be able to tell you with their words.
